Theatreland came together to celebrate its finest talents at the 63rd Evening Standard Theatre Awards last night, with The Ferryman crowned Best Play.

Playwright Jez Butterworth was presented with the award by Hamilton creator and co-host for the evening, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Upon accepting the trophy, Butterworth told his partner and star of The Ferryman Laura Donnelly, “I’m not going to dedicate this award to you, I’m going to give it to you.”

Andrew Garfield was given the best actor award for his performance in Angels in America at the National Theatre, whilst Glenda Jackson’s return to the stage as King Lear saw her win best actress.
