The Bend Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the lead agency for regional transportation planning and the decision-making body for federal and state transportation funding for the Bend Area. The Bend MPO formed in December 2002 when the Bend area reached 50,000 in population.

At the Bend MPO Policy Board meetings, current transportation issues are discussed, and status reports are provided for current transportation studies and projects. Policy actions may include adoption or revision of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), direction on development of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and adoption of resolutions related to current transportation issues.
