directed by Orson Welles

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth with one of the great treasures of cinema presented on a rare 35mm film print.

In Chimes at Midnight Henry IV (John Gielgud) usurps the English throne, sets in motion the War of the Roses and now faces a rebellion led by Northumberland scion Hotspur (Norman Rodway). Henry's heir, Prince Hal (Keith Baxter), is a ne'er-do-well carouser who causes mischief with his low-class friends, especially his rotund father figure, John Falstaff (Orson Welles). To redeem his title, Hal may have to choose between allegiance to his real father and loyalty to his friend.

Director’s Bio:

Orson Welles is now considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th Century. He made singular history in the mediums of theater, radio and the cinema prior to the age of 30. His cinematic masterpieces ranged from Citizen Kane to Franz Kafka's The Trial. After experiencing difficulty with the studio system, Welles moved to Europe in 1948. In 1975, he received the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award. And in 1984, the Directors Guild of America awarded him its highest honor, the D.W. Griffith Award. Celebrations marking Orson Welles Centennial were held this year all over the world, and a major effort is now being undertaken to complete his last film The Other Side of the Wind.
