Crumbling Farum Azula is a floating ruin, surrounded by tornadoes. It can only be reached from the Mountaintops of the Giants through a cutscene, but a waygate at The Four Belfries does allow you to visit a smaller section of it ahead of time.

*Maliketh was the half-brother of Queen Marika the Eternal, a Numen Empyrean who would become the vessel of the Elden Ring and a god. Maliketh was her sworn shadow, unquestionably loyal. On her behalf, he fought the Gloam-Eyed Queen, another Empyrean, and sealed away the power of her Black Flame.

Wanting a world without Destined Death, Marika took the Rune of Death from the Elden Ring, imbued it to a sword and charged Maliketh with protecting it.

Maliketh bound his blade to his own flesh, so that none could ever steal the power of death again. Doing so caused him to become eternally hungry, gnawing at the Deathroot that sprouted from the roots of the Erdtree. He took the name "Gurranq, Beast Clergyman" and began recruiting followers to weed out Deathroot, a vile plant which became a source of Those Who Live in Death. Gurranq's followers feed him Deathroot to satisfy his unending hunger.
