Worldly things have made us attached. Attachment induces unhappiness. Happiness is freedom, when we're attached we aren't free.

Attachment means you depend your happiness on things outside yourself including people. You are allowing them to take control of your life. Is there anything else more miserable than this?

From attachment arises desires and from desires come anger. Anger causes inability to differentiate right and wrong, or confusion. Confusion ruins whole life.

If someone says, I can't live without you, this is a real example of attachment. And attachment no matter how good it feels in the beginning, it will end up with misery.
We can't control anything outside us, I really mean anything, anyone.

How many people have been disappointed by someone or something they rely on. And this is because of attachment.
Detachment teaches us to be independent. How to be back to our intrinsic trait which is happiness (Ananda, our soul or Atma). Happiness is inside us, our own spirit. People are unhappy because of their ego mind (Ahamkara), cause of all attachments.

Detachment comes from letting go of desires to control things or people outside of us. Those who think holding power are merely being controlled by their own ego.

Detachment also means living like diamond in the mud. It's not polluted by the mud.
