A architectural immersive installation installed in The Red Room, Mottisfont from January 2020

Casting Light takes a virtual journey through the architectural layers of Mottisfont Abbey and house using a combination of 3D laser scanning technology, video projection and sound.


We asked the surveyors Geosight to scan the property in 2019 resulting in a vast point cloud from which we generated a series of animated journeys through a virtual Mottisfont. The soundscape was developed from recordings made around the site.


Casting Light is projected onto a semi-transparent screen in The Red Room, at the centre of the house. This creates a relationship between the real and virtual as they run in parallel and at times seem to merge. This can deepen when the property is revisited after experiencing the installation.

Here is the complete video and sound content which renders walls and objects as porous membranes with the ability to change transparency and appearence. Mottisfont itself is peppered with its own ambiguities, façades and trompe-l'œil architecture.
