Описание к видео Ancient Ruins in the Desert - The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument (Arizona Archaeology)

We visit Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Coolidge, Arizona; an archaeological site with 900-year-old ruins.

On this episode of Searching for History, Erin and I visit the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. The Casa Grande Ruins are located in Coolidge, Arizona, about an hour drive southeast of Phoenix. The national monument preserves a group of Hohokam culture ruins that date to 1150 to 1450. “Casa Grande” is Spanish for “big house,” which is the name of the central and tallest adobe ruin existing in the national monument. In 1892, the 480-acre site became the first prehistoric and cultural reserve in the United States. It was designated a National Monument in 1918. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Casa Grande Ruins is a remarkable site and very much worth a visit. At the time we visited in June of 2023, there was no entrance fee. This is the tenth of a twelve-part series that documents the historical and archaeological sites Erin and I visited on our journey to and from Arizona. Join us as we visit Casa Grande Ruins National Monument.
