Tactics Ogre Reborn: Definitive Tier List (2023 Revision)

Описание к видео Tactics Ogre Reborn: Definitive Tier List (2023 Revision)

Timestamps will be in the comments. All rankings are just my opinion after months with this version of the game, and several playthroughs. Ultimately the best unit is the one you like, it's the best way to play.

There are a few more edits I was planning on throwing out there, but we'll make it it's own thing down the road. Like the Dragoon can be a pretty reasonable threat with their Finisher suite, they can combine Keening and Beast Slayer, or be tricky with a Guaranteed Falsestrike to make their 1v1 Beast encounters better. They're an odd unit to describe or rate, because for every situation of them 3 v 1ing several octopi, they will be absolutely steamrolled by one just due to terrain or something. They're fun, I love using them, but it feels like such a bummer when they show up to an opportune moment with 34 MP and no Auto setup.
On the flip side, Archers often get panned because of their neutral damage, but those massive spikes upon hitting breaches and elements just come in clutch so dang often. More speedrun videos when I have time, but it just feels so good to run into a map, throw a Mead, and see the arrows melt something.
I got a lot of criticism early on for rating units based on team synergies like this, but it would be like saying early firearms were worthless because Pike and Shot was the preferred way to make sure they didn't get flattened by cavalry immediately.
Admittedly, I had an absolute brain fart on the Divine Knight. It's such a unique case of a unit that can be absolutely underwhelming when you try it on it's own...but then you come in with an Ogre'd unit, and they become this flappy God. Also, they do get Meditate 2 like the fencer, I forgot to mention that. Thank You Vale for pointing that out.
I know inevitably there will be blowback like every time for preferring units with backup plans and defensive play over DPS specialists, but I just don't see resetting turns and fights as the way to play. The way I see it, if I can't rely on a unit to perform in bad situations, I don't really want them. Chariot shouldn't even be in the game outside of an Easy mode when something like Recruit is this insanely good. Anyways, enough random ranting, I did remember the timestamps for once guys!

Sincerely,
Coffee Potato

46:02 Knight
48:08 Lich (Bit of a side note here, but I forgot to mention Nature Touch. Even though they don't match the elemental spells, their raw power up to that point make up for the lack of a match, putting them roughly on par with a NT Shaman of the same training. I only bring this up because this is seen as a meme setup, when in reality they can make great use of Apocrypha because of the double MP move setup down the road. Plus if using an Ogre Blade setup, you could have a Conserve MP/Engulf/NT/Lament unit casting free Ice over 2s with the full boost if body snatching the semi unique Ice Lich in Coda.)
49:24 Necromancer
50:32 Knight Commander
51:03 Lord
51:52 Valkyrie/Rune Fencer

54:52 Swordmaster (Note that during the test I was using a Nodachi until late POTD when the Sweep and Bead dropped, relics are not required for them to function, but they do open up the class..before we get the usual "X needs Y to function" argument.)
58:07 Octopus (While poison tiles are basically harmless to them, I don't like them flashing, flight gives them way more.)
