8 track pinch roller repair for "gooey" types (Ampex & GRT types) (AMPEX Repair pt 3/3)

Описание к видео 8 track pinch roller repair for "gooey" types (Ampex & GRT types) (AMPEX Repair pt 3/3)

This is the 3rd and final video for AMPEX type cartridge repairs and focuses on repairing the actual pinch roller itself. Did not have a video on how to close the tape halves. To do this, first make sure the holes in the lower half of the cartridge are cleaned out of any plastic shavings/residue. Take an opened paper clip of the small screw driver and scrape it around the 5 holes. Make sure the posts are cleaned as well. Then align the halves and press down hard over each of the 5 pins. I also place the tape on a hard floor and step on the 5 post areas (Careful about the center and don't step too hard or you will crack the case!). A small clamp also can work. By the way, the masking tape on the hub is used to raise the thickness of the rubber tire so that there is good contact with the tape drive shaft when inserted into machine, otherwise the tape may not move or move continuously.

Added note about the replacement tubing:
I am using what is called a rubber spindle. These are used on oscillating power sanders. A tube with abrasive sandpaper fits over these and they are used to sand the inner surface of holes in wood or rounded edges and Sears Craftsman and Ryobi both carried them but have not been able to find them there lately. Best bet is to search on the internet.

The dimensions you need are:

Outer Diameter: 3/4 inch (1.9mm)
Inner Diameter: 1/2 inch (1.3mm)
Tube thickness (most critical measurement): 1/8 inch (0.3mm)

The overall diameter of the pinch roller (with the tubing mounted on the plastic hub) should be about 13/16 inch.

Tube MUST be smooth and not too soft (spongy) or like foam. Must be hard rubber. A harder tube is very difficult to slip over the plastic hub. I tried the clear plastic tubing and it didn't work too well (not uniform thickness)

I did a google search and found a company where you might be able to get this tubing. I did not call them to verify though. Give them the dimensions noted above.
