Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved giving classical language status to five new languages. These languages are Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese and Bengali. This decision recognizes the cultural and linguistic diversity of the country. It is worth noting that with this decision of the Cabinet, the number of recognized classical languages has increased from six to eleven. However, earlier the recognized languages included Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odia. The purpose of this decision is to encourage the development and preservation of these languages.
In other section, Recently Nepal, India and Bangladesh signed a cross border trilateral electricity trade agreement. According to this agreement, Nepal will export its excess electricity to Bangladesh via India from 15 June to 15 November every year. On the other hand, India will help in supplying electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh. Under its first phase, Nepal will export 40megawatt hydroelectricity to Bangladesh via Indian territory. Nepal has fixed the rate of electricity per unit at 6.4 cents.
