What is AMH? It is Anti Mullerian Hormone. It is just a blood test, but the best part about this blood test is it can tell you exactly what is your fertility potential. All of us women want to now if our health is on good condition and reproductive health is one of the integral part of our health system, we want to now if our haemoglobin is good, if our thyroid is good, if our sugar levels are god just like that we want to know if you are fertile enough. This is one fantastic test which can tell us if our fertility is good bad or average. So one single test can almost to an extent 90% predict whether you want to postpone your fertility, whether you want to prepone your family and plan all the other things accordingly. We have so many women now who are into fast, aggressive, progressive careers and want to know if they have enough time to postpone your fertility, this test is going to help you decide whether it is the right time to plan the baby or if you have enough time to postpone the family so that you can finish off the other things and get back. AMH is also known as Mullerian Inhibiting Substance or Anti Mullerian Hormone. This is produced by the small preantral follicles and that is why when you have more number of follicles in your body, the hormone test in the body is higher and if you have less number of follicles the test value is going to be lower. Every lab has a defence level for AMH. But if your AMH is between 1.5 to 3.5, then they are in the normal range. As the AMH value keeps on decreasing it is and alarming sign that their fertility potential is also deceasing and that is when we have to be more aggressive about planning a family. So any AMH value of less than 1 should alarm us and be more aggressive about fertility treatment and helps us complete the family as early as possible whereas a high AMH level is always indicative of some hormonal imbalances in the body, most often suggesting polycystic ovaries. Why AMH is high in polycystic is because the number of follicles are high in polycystic, the AMH values are also higher.
