"The standard of care is given over three days. Some are given like twice daily for three days. Some are given. Once daily but it is for three days and then there is the issue of compliance and that issue of compliance as patients don't complete the treatment is again coming with the issue of resistance. So everyone is actually aiming to have a drug that can be given at a shorter regimen."

So, to better protect ourselves—I don't know if I can put it that way—even though we use everything we need, mosquito nets, we protect ourselves from dirty water, as long as there are mosquitoes, it will always come back.”

"Malaria is a major public health problem in our country. That is, according to 2024 data, more than 154,000 cases, with an incidence of 62 per 1000 inhabitants in the general population. Unfortunately, when you take a closer look and look at children under 5, this incidence increases to 112 per 1000 inhabitants. In terms of deaths, we are at 10.69 per 100,000 inhabitants, which shows that it is really a major public health problem in our country.”

Doctors leading a malaria trial in Gabon say they've created a single dose drug which is cost effective because it combines 4 compounds which are already widely available.
They believe the combination drug will help counteract malaria’s growing resistance to drugs.
