STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) and UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) are two common types of cables used in computer networks.

STP (Shielded Twisted Pair): STP cables have a protective metal shield around the twisted pairs of wires, providing excellent protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). To identify STP, look for the metal foil or braided shield covering the twisted pairs inside the cable.

UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair): UTP cables lack the metal shielding, making them more susceptible to EMI and RFI. However, they are cost-effective and widely used in many network applications. To identify UTP, check for absence of any metal shielding; UTP cables typically consist of color-coded twisted pairs without an additional outer metallic layer.

By recognizing these differences, you can easily identify whether a cable is STP or UTP, crucial for setting up reliable and interference-resistant network connections.
