I’m sure you’ve heard on the internet grape-vine that LastPass has made some changes recently, some changes that left some of their loyal users pretty stumped. With LastPass’ recent switches, you might be thinking: should I stay or should I go? Or even, should I sign-up? So, let’s break down their revised free and paid plans, and if any of them are worth your time!

LastPass free and recent changes?

We will always recommend a good-quality password manager at the very least to safeguard your sensitive information. Seeing as you’re here, we’re guessing you already know that LastPass is a password manager, and a pretty famous one at that, long have we considered LastPass the most feature-rich free option out there. But, these changes have brought on a lot of confusion behind what features they are now offering and what devices you can actually use for free...with what plans.The most significant part of these changes, was the limitation of device type access. These new changes have pushed free users to make a tough decision between computer devices or mobile devices. That’s one of the largest differences between the LastPass free and premium plans. Then we have the customer support - free users have to look towards a knowledge base and community forum for their answers, (a new Lastpass change.) This is a change many free users have struggled with and I totally get it, being able to access some kind of human support for something as valuable as your passwords should be a walk in the park!

Is there any point going premium?

Having said all of this, then is there even a point to going premium? Well, before the changes many would have happily settled for the free plan, but now email support alone is enough reason to question your choices. As far as upgrades from the free plan, there are already some more advanced features if you were thinking about opening your wallet: a security dashboard, 1 GB of encrypted file storage and emergency access are all extremely useful for all types of users. Most glaringly - the one-to-many password sharing which is useful to let colleagues or family securely access your logins, which is actually capped to 1 person with the free plan. Then the dark web monitoring for immediate alerts if your info is compromised online. Super important security feature! Of course there’s the must-have features for some: advanced 2FA, email customer support and the cross-device capabilities that we’ve mentioned.
