A. Viswam is Indian abstract painter, He was born in 1950, in Keelavannam, Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu. He completed the diploma in painting from Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kumbakonam in 1974 and Post Diploma in Painting from Government College of Arts & Crafts, Madras in 1978. He has been the founder member of Pallava Artist village, Padappai, Chennai and member of Contemporary Painters & Writers Association, Salem and also Secretary of Indo-Russian Art Academy in Chennai. He has held lots of group and solo exhibitions.

Artist Viswam Appasamy is one of the very active senior artists with huge profile. He is very well known for his colourful abstract art work of oil on canvas. He directly applies paints on canvas from tubes & working with single brush & palate knife. For him art is not just a profession but his soul, his breath of life. He says it's not me doing art, rather it's the canvas inviting me to do it. He feels art is not about copying something and can never be copied because every creation in every moment in the universe is unique one. He says that he never pre plans his art work. It is spontaneous, because that is how nature works in it's own rhythm. Further he says that parents can have the union to get a child but can't decide the child's gender, shape, form, color, etc,. that is unknown and completely taken care by nature. His choice of color is with full of life and vibrancy. He chooses bright colors like yellow, red, magenta, deep blue, turquoise etc. he feels it's the five elements of nature like fire, air, ether, earth and water which takes its natural way of form when he is working.

He have been honoured with State Award of Tamil Nadu Lalit Kala Academy, Chennai in 1992, also National Award of Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 1995 and so many. His works have been showcased at various national and international art exhibitions.
