Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit! In this video I’m reacting to two very different takes on the Tomoe Umari situation — and the internet’s reaction to whether she should have to talk about politics, especially hot-button topics like ICE.
First, I watch MoemiRatChannel’s video “Tomoe Umari | A Preformative Patriot” where he criticizes Tomoe for not condemning ICE and tells her that, as someone with a “patriotic” or military theme, she shouldn’t stay silent on political issues.
Then I react to Rev Says Desu’s video “Reddit Is FUMING About This ‘Patriotic’ Vtuber And Encouraging More Hatred Towards Her” which shows a wave of Twitter and Reddit users attacking Tomoe — not for what she said, but simply because she chose to stay apolitical.
Here’s the context you need to understand:
Tomoe Umari is a VTuber affiliated with V-Dere known for her military-tomboy/horse-girl character and gaming content, not political commentary. She has not made ICE-related statements, and many comments online are angry at her because of assumptions about her “patriotism.”
Reddit threads show people attacking her simply for not picking a side, even going as far as dramatizing her silence as “compliance” or a “cop-out.”
Others in the community rightly push back, reminding folks that VTubers aren’t obligated to voice political opinions — especially ones that could jeopardize real-world consequences or divide their fanbase.
In this reaction I break down:
Why creators like Moemi and certain redditors cross a line by pressuring others into political territory and attacking them for their choices.
Why being a creator or having a “patriotic aesthetic” does not mean you owe anyone your political stance.
Why people should focus criticism where there’s actual harmful behavior, not on someone who chooses to stay out of political arguments entirely.
Creators should have the freedom to express opinions if they want to — or not — without being harassed or dragged into politics. Just because someone’s branding might seem “patriotic” doesn’t give anyone permission to demand they take a political side on every hot-button issue.
If you believe VTubers and creators should be allowed to stay apolitical if they choose, hit Like, Subscribe, and ring so you don’t miss more reactions and honest takes! Then tell me in the comments: Do you think creators have an obligation to speak out on political topics — or is staying apolitical okay?
