J.S.Bach - ORGAN CONCERTO in D MINOR after Vivaldi (BWV 596) [Hauptwerk // Noordbroek]

In this video you can hear my rendition of Antonio Vivaldi's “Concerto in D minor” (BWV 596) arranged by J.S.Bach played on my Hauptwerk organ. I have chosen to use the sample set of Noordbroek, created by Sonus Paradisi

Bach did not only compose. He also transcribed music from other composers. A good guess could be that Bach was quite intrigued by the music of one of his contempory colleagues, Antonio Vivaldi. In this video you can hear Vivaldi's concerto for two violins and orchestra from his L’Estro Armonico. Bach famously arranged 6 concertos by Vivaldi.

If one take a look at the score of BWV 596 it is quite unusual because Bach actually notes which stops he would like used for playing this piece. The main purpose was to enable the concerto to be heard at Bach's desired pitch because the organs at that time couldn't replicate the pitch of the two violins. Therefore he specifically ask the start to be played with 4 foot principals.
If just Bach had done that more often. I would have loved to see how he would have had registered this own music.
