1. Present similar ideas in the space to explain WHY they didn’t work to prove your idea out. (0:52)

When we think about strategy, the key is that, many of the times, we’re not really reinventing the wheel, but trying to make it go faster because of an opportunity we see through our thinking process. This is how to present a business idea.

That’s why the BEST way to present a business case for an idea you’re working on is finding similar ideas that have worked in the past or didn’t and explain your thought process in how you came to your idea. That way, when a potential donor for your non-profit, an executive who wants to invest in your company or really anything can say hey, this makes sense to me now, I can see why you’re so passionate about bringing this to life.

2. Clearly explain what the world looks like with your ideas implemented in them. (3:06)

An easy way to think about this section is to answer the following question for yourself. How would the world change if everyone implemented your thoughts and ideas? These are called what-if statements that I got from a workshop with Nicole Gibson, the founder of Love Out Loud. My what-if question is what if we all had the courage to share our story? Well, we would all realize that all our stories matter and that we matter, that’s the driving force for MasterTalk and in Nicole’s case it was what if the world fell in love?

These types of expansive questions FORCE you to think of the bigger picture behind what you’re trying to do and gets people excited to follow you, whether that’s helping you raise some money for your non-profit, working for your company or just giving you free support to help you achieve your ultimate goal. The more you talk about the bigger picture, the more people you attract to your mission. This is how to present a business idea.

3. Explain in detail why you believe you are the perfect person to bring this idea to life. (5:06)

For this section, you want to spend a lot of time breaking down what your unique gifts, passions, talents are to prove to whoever you are talking to that you are serious about your idea. Some founders like Marc Lore have done this by pouring their entire life savings into their ideas to show investors that they’re betting all their cards on this, others talk about how they’re solving their problem and some just talk about how fast they’re moving.

In my case with MasterTalk, if I was defending it, sure I don’t have a Ph.D in Communication, but I’ve presented 100’s of times, and I can be a role model for anyone in their 10’s or 20’s to say hey if I can master public speaking, you can too. This is how to present a business idea.
