In March 1965, the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera" published sensational results of radio intercepts made by a group of radio amateurs from the town of Torre Berta.
According to their data, in the early 1960s in the Soviet Union there were several unsuccessful manned space flights that resulted in human casualties. Lyudmila's flight was one of them.Two Italian brothers, Achille and Gian Battista Giudica-Cordiglia, bought a cheap and old World War II German bunker near Turin and equipped it with a powerful radio station.
They installed a parabolic antenna that allowed them to listen to Soviet and American satellite signals.
The brothers were so successful in "eavesdropping" on cosmonauts that they were even called to NASA to share their experience.
They managed to intercept several strange signals from space, one of which is a recording of a female Russian-speaking voice, supposedly made between May 16 and 23, 1961.
The voice reports a fire on board and asks for help. The recording is very poor, but some words and codes are clearly audible "32- running out of oxygen, 41- approaching the sun."
The brothers assured that the radio message came from Earth orbit.
According to their assumption, the Soviet ship lost its heat shield and was slowly burning up in the dense atmosphere. This fact was confirmed by the fact that the unknown signals were caught by the British radio telescope Jodrell Bank.
But officials never commented on it, and the real story of Lyudmila is unknown.
