Years of research has demonstrated that an individual’s level of participation in the arts is closely linked to their academic achievement, civic engagement and social and emotional development. And even though numerous studies provide evidence for the importance of the arts in childhood development the time spent on arts education in our school systems continues to be minimal as the need for creative thinkers and innovation in the workplace continues to grow. The Norfolk Arts Center is the community partner best geared to help fill this gap in student learning as we work together to meet the needs of our students and our entire community.

Every Big Give donation to NAC supports the development of Access to Art and the purchase of materials and supplies needed to purposefully expand the artistic talents of Norfolk creative youth. With your donation, you are helping NAC meet a need in the lives of Norfolk’s creative youth by ensuring every student artist is matched with a compatible adult mentor. Help us provide a safe environment for Norfolk’s youth to grow their passion for the arts as they develop healthy new relationships and gain confidence in their abilities. Implementation of the mentorship program will be a short 3 month process and will be impacting young artists beginning fall 2016.
