混合動力車輛（hybrid vehicle）是使用兩種以上的能源產生動能驅動的車輛，而驅動系統可以有一套或多套。常用的能量來源有燃料（汽油、柴油、液化石油氣等）、電池、燃料電池、太陽能電池、壓縮氣體等，而常用的驅動系統包含內燃機、電動馬達、渦輪機等技術。
使用燃油驅動內燃機加上電池驅動電動馬達的混合動力車稱為油電混合動力車或混合電動車（hybrid electric vehicle，簡稱HEV），目前市面上的混合動力車多屬此種。油電混合動力車在內燃機低速效率不佳的時候使用電動馬達輔助，在普通駕駛時用慣性驅動發電機回收部分動能給電池充電，普遍比同型純內燃機車輛有更好的燃油效率及加速表現，被視為較環保的選擇，而缺點在於售價較高、動力系統佔用空間較大、電池的壽命受限等。
近年來，有些車輛能夠透過充電站或家用充電設備從電網為車輛電池充電，被稱為插電式混合動力汽車（plug-in hybrid electric vehicle，簡稱PHEV），如果電網中的發電廠使用可再生能源、碳排放量低的發電方法或採取電力離峰時間充電，短距離通勤甚至可以純電動行駛，那就可以進一步降低車輛的碳排放量。同時更大的電池還能放出儲存的電能，提供住家或旅行臨時的電力使用，多用途也逐漸變得歡迎。

Hybrid vehicles that use fuel to drive internal combustion engines and batteries to drive electric motors are called hybrid electric vehicles or hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). If the power plants in the power grid use renewable energy, low-carbon emission power generation methods or adopt off-peak charging, short-distance commuting can even be pure electric driving, which can further reduce the carbon emissions of vehicles. At the same time, larger batteries can also release stored electricity to provide temporary power use at home or travel, and multi-purpose use is gradually becoming popular.
