A mudslide triggered by heavy rain has left hundreds dead and many missing in the West African country of Sierra Leone.

Ji-won, how many have been confirmed dead and how is the rescue operation coming along?

Mark, the death toll currently stands at 400, but with another 600 still missing, according to the Red Cross,... the number is expected to go even higher.
As many as 3-thousand people have been left homeless from the disaster, as of now.
The devastating mudslide comes after heavy rain and flooding hit the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown.
This tragedy is thought to be one of the deadliest natural disasters in Africa in recent years.
Despite Red Cross and volunteers' efforts in searching for survivors, the dangerous terrain and the sheer scale of the disaster are making it difficult,... leading Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma to call for urgent support from the international community.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Koroma said the "entire communities have been wiped out" and the devastation "was overwhelming" them.
While flooding is not uncommon in Sierra Leone, unsafe housing in makeshift settlements seems to have made the situation worse.
A burial is to take place on Thursday, according to government authorities.
