VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
For those of you who know the difference between an isolator switch and a circuit breaker, regarding functions, how it works, etc.. however, in this scenario (solar power setup), it is theory against the actual application. I also have experienced the same thing as mentioned in this video. I have seen it with my own eyes, a PV circuit breaker burned just by switching it on and off regardless of its right and properly calculated rating and installation. This video is a reply to multiple queries I received from my viewers and Padawans regarding the importance of PV and battery isolator switches in a solar power system. Here's the question... “Is it really important to have these isolator switches between solar panel arrays and SCC or hybrid inverters, or is it just a waste of money or investment?”

Due to arching when switching on and off the PV array or the battery bank, circuit breakers gradually deteriorates along the process. In the worst-case scenario, the arching could potentially burn any circuit breakers and cause a fire. This is the part where isolator switches play a great role in making any solar power system even safer.
