Shape layers are great for creating transitions, patterns, icons, characters, and so much more. Remeber, you can always save shape layers as presets and use them in future projects. Tools, like the repeater, open more creative avenues for you to explore, so take advantage of what After Effects has to offer and bring your designs to the next level. To save shape layers (with or without the Repeater), simply highlight all of your contents in the shape layer, click Animation - Save Animation Preset - and name the file. It's that simple!
