This video gives a brief overview of ways that I've used OpenMusic in composing a recent piece for chamber ensemble. I derived the harmony for this new work by using some ideas developed by Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. After implementing these concepts in a patch, I was able to take a sample pitch collection from a passage by Ravel and develop some new harmonies with particularly useful interval structures. I then used OpenMusic to form these harmonies into a passacaglia-type chord progression to form the harmonic basis for the piece.
