From Ostend in Belgium, Siegfried Vynck has designed a mural of a Clyde Tugboat. The tugboat was once a familiar sight on the river and evokes a time when the shipbuilding industry was at its height. The prominent location of the mural is particularly significant as it is one of the historical centres of shipbuilding in Scotland. The artist has created a step-by-step guide to action painting so that local people can create his design without prior training. The Govan artist Fiona Flemming and a team of volunteers delivered the project assisted by the Fablevision team.

What's the future of post-industrial waterfront heritage zones in European Cities?

Memory of Water is an artist-led project exploring post-industrial cultural heritage on waterfront in the context of urban planning and community development.
Over two years, the participating partners from six countries (Intercult in Sweden, Stad Ostend in Belgium, the Municipality of Levadia in Greece, Nadbaltyckie Centrum Kultury in Poland, Fablevision in Scotland, and Ormston House in Ireland) will collaborate on twenty-three interconnected activities including four city labs, six international residencies, and a filmed documentary. Artists will work with citizens, community groups, politicians, urban planners and other stakeholders to create inclusive events and artistic interventions. The full programme of 23 interconnected activities is developed to meet the three priorities of the Creative Europe Co-operations programme: audience development, capacity building and transnational mobility.

Cultural charity, Fablevision working with Ines Cavaco, Hamish Rhodes, Fiona Fleming and local volunteer, Rory Kyle, work to translate Ostend-based artist, Siegfried Vynck's mural of a Clyde Puffer onto the gable end wall of Quickshift Tyre Service on the corner of Clydebrae and Stag Street, Govan. The artwork celebrates and remembers the workhorse single-masted cargo boat - the eponymous puffer - which was once a common site on the River Clyde.
