The story of the 'Death Match' between Ukrainian outfit FC Start and German military team 'Flakelf' was the inspiration for the 1981 movie Escape to Victory, along with a handful of other films and books.

The story claims that a Ukrainian team made up of mostly ex Dynamo Kyiv players were told they had to lose a game whilst under German occupation, but refused.

In this video, HITC Sevens sorts the fact from the fiction when it comes to the Death Match, and what actually happened to the players involved that day in 1942.
