Wenjing Sui Cong Han Yang Jin Lei Wang "Red Envelope" w/Eng Subs 2016 CNY Party

Some background information about the skit:
In China, special red envelopes containing small amounts of cash are sometimes given to children on the first day of Lunar New Year. Unfortunately, they are also required in many other arenas of life as, if not outright bribes, then at least anticipatory gestures of gratitude.

Most commonly, the family of a patient about to be admitted to a hospital for an important procedure will offer a red envelope containing a significant sum to the physician in charge of the patient’s care, in the hope that the patient will be treated well.

The “Red Envelope” skit, set against this cultural backdrop, was first performed on television. At the Chinese National Skating Team’s 2016 Lunar New Year party, three pairs figure skating teams joined forces to perform their own version of the skit.

The skit centers around a man who is reluctant, as a matter of principle, to give a red envelope filled with cash to the surgeon performing an appendectomy on his father-in-law, so he gives an envelope filled with pieces of paper cut to the size of a stack of 100-yuan bills.

Hilarity ensues, both from the performance itself, and from raucous but good-natured audience comments aimed at Sui/Han and their relationship.

Note: The ending of the figure skaters’ skit is a pared-down version of the original, which piles on many absurd blessings. (The original title of the skit is, in fact, “Three Hundred and Sixty-five Blessings”.)
