With the introduction of the 2018 Yamaha Star Eluder, Yamaha has entered the world of the big-inch bagger. While the Star Eluder does incorporate several cues from the revered bagger segment, Yamaha aims to expand the definition of the bagger with its highly sophisticated offering.

Powered by a 113ci V-twin engine, the Star Eluder produces a claimed 126 ft/lbs of torque at a mere 2500 rpm. Thanks to its flat torque curve, the beastly V-twin powerplant remains tractable and predictable. In addition, the wide gear ratios make for an effort free experience, as shifting frequency is reduced dramatically.

When it comes to suspension, Yamaha has hit a great balance between comfort and utility - when the pace picks up, riders can expect a compliant and stable machine. Subtle inputs go a long way, making the sizable Star Eluder an amicable machine.

In keeping with the times, this modern bagger is equipped with ABS, traction control and has switchable riding modes - not to mention its navigation systems.

Editor Don Williams took the 2018 Yamaha Star Eluder out and was able to share his first impressions during this first ride review.
