On Friday, Feb. 3, Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the Hoehn Subdivision Sewer Improvements Project.

The project is a joint effort of Hidalgo County, the Urban County Program, Drainage District #1, and the McAllen Public Utility Board. Improvements to the Hoehn Subdivision will benefit more than 700 area residents.

Palacios worked with the partners and advocated on behalf of the community for the McAllen PUB to provide the sewer connections to residents that had, in the past, major issues with septic tanks. Located on Monte Cristo Road, the subdivision sits in a very low area, where rainwater naturally collects. Drainage District #1 and Urban County worked with the precinct in installing a drainage network of pipes ranging in size from 24” to 54” along Hoehn Drive.

The new drainage pipes will transport storm water that collects in the ditches via grated inlets to discharge into the La Puerta Drain Ditch and, with residents now connected to the sewage system, there is no longer a need to use septic tanks.
