slenderbodies – “belong” (DSCVR)

A few years ago, Max Vehuni and Benji Cormack were college dorm-mates in Santa Cruz with an interest in falsetto vocals. Now they're a buzzed-about pop duo making the world safe for soft sounds. Slenderbodies is one of those bands you stop and listen too after just a song or two. Vehuni and Cormack have sculpted their pulsing guitar music to be airy, more a whisper than a scream, and in doing so, it's deeply fetching. Check the sound of "belong." It has a boss nova vibe that helps move everything along; the pair have told interviewers that "the concept of intimacy" is key to their approach, and they've also turned to Radiohead and the Beach Boys for ideas about sculpting their music’s dreamy atmosphere. When they brought their two guitars to our DSCVR studio for performances of "belong" and "senses," that gorgeous wispiness carried the day.
