How to Lighten Acne Scars - Can you lighten acne scars? You can lighten acne scars fast if you do these three things consistenly.
How quickly you can lighten Acne scars depends on how easily your skin can tan and how prone your skin is to scarring.
Typically, the lighter your skin is, the easier it is to lighten Acne scars.
Acne scars, or any other scars, are called Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.

We are going to talk about: Do Acne spots or scars ever go away?? How do you treat them and lighten them??
Acne scars can range from a mild reddish-brown spot to a more severe dark-brown-to-purple pock mark. They all fall under the same category and are called "POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION".
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation can be lightened through the following methods:
1. PREVENTATIVE CARE
To prevent the scars from even appearing in the first place, use a high SPF sunscreen, preferably one with mostly mineral-based ingredients. Look for: Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide, or Titanium Dioxide.
You want to avoid chemical sunscreens because if you are using one in addition to lightening-and-brightening products, they can sensitize the skin causing your skin to react to the sunscreen.
2. REGULAR EXFOLIATION
Exfoliate your skin on a regular basis in the EVENING, not in the morning. Again, even though exfoliation helps lighten the scars and Hyperpigmentation, they can also be DARKENED when exposed to the Sun.
3. USE MORE CONCENTRATED SKINCARE PRODUCTS
Look for lightening-and-brightening products that have the following ingredients: Vitamin C, Arbutin, Kojic Acid, Lactic Acid, Green Tea Extract, and Niacinamide.
There is a LONG list of ingredients that can lighten-and-brighten Acne scars and Hyperpigmentation, but we love these because they are more naturally-based ingredients versus chemically-based.
The higher the percentage of these ingredients in the skincare products, the better they'll work to lighten and brighten your skin.
4. AVOID SUN EXPOSURE
A simple way to avoid Acne scars and Hyperpigmentation, try to avoid exposing your skin to the Sun as much as possible. (In addition to wearing a high SPF sunscreen.)
If you have more severe forms of Acne, there are more aggressive treatments you can do...
5. ACID PEELS & MICRO-DERMABRASION
Acid Peels can be a Lactic / Kojic Acid combination, Glycolic Acid, or Retinol Peel. Make sure you CONSULT A SKINCARE PROFESSIONAL before getting one of these treatments done. They can recommend whether you just need one Acid Peel or a series of Acid Peels to help lighten your skin.
If you have more severe pockmarks or deep, brownish-purple colored scars, then you may want to consider something even more aggressive, like Micro-Dermabrasion, in addition to the Acid Peels. Again, CONSULT A LICENSED SKINCARE PROFESSIONAL so they can recommend what the best treatment is for your skin.
If you have darker skin-tones are tend to tan easily, make sure if you decide to do a more aggressive treatment to do them SLOWLY. The faster the treatments, the more your skin may produce Melanin (darkening your skin even MORE). The treatments are causing trauma to the skin to lighten it, but your skin may respond by producing more Melanin.
Getting the treatments done slowly and less aggressively, they will lighten your skin more slowly, BUT that's what you want! To lighten your skin versus causing it to darken even more.
If you have lighter skin-tones or tend to have thinner skin, I recommend to consult a skincare professional and let them decide. They need to see the texture of your skin and how thin it is before they can recommend an appropriate treatment.
There you have it! Now you're ready to lighten and brighten those Acne scars and Hyperpigmentation spots. Remember to pay attention to the ingredients in the products and sunscreens you use and consult a skincare professional who will help guide you to the proper treatments.
