Cedar siding is your best natural siding so don't let contractors talk you into replacing all of it with hardiplank! Cedar siding was used by a ton of builders throughout the metro atlanta are in the 70's and 80s when it was really cheap. It isn't cheap to buy anymore! The siding on this house had been let go for many years, without caulk or paint. It should have been stained but someone painted it instead. The house was never flashed properly and the cornerboards were built incorrectly. For years, water was getting into the wall cavity at those locations. The gutters should have had kickout flashing where the gutter hits the chimney - the flashing it set into the siding and bridges the gap between the gutters and the siding. Without this, water had rotted the framing at the chimney and the rear wall of the house.

We installed a custom cut & beveled pressure treated flashing plate at the rear deck to prevent water from getting into the gap between the house and the deck. The deck was only partially flashed when it was built and a previous contractor used galvanized flashing & nails. The chemicals in the new pressure treated decking used to make the repair ate through the flashing in less than a year. This customer actually had water getting into the rear wall of their garage from this. Our flashing plates obviate the need for flashing and this issue was resolved for the customer.

It's hard to see it in the video but this client's master bathroom window was rotted through to the framing. They had gotten bids of $2,500 to $3,000 to replace it. We made the necessary repairs for under $400. This was a very trick repair as the cedar frame was built through to the interior wall as the window had been stick built on site.
