PETITTI African Violet Spotlight | How to Grow, Propagate, & Care for Violets

African Violets, a.k.a. Saintpaulia ionantha, are one of the most popular flowering houseplants because they are easy to grow, tolerate average indoor conditions, and can flower throughout the year. According to the ASPCA, African Violets are a great pet-friently plant to have around! These plants prefer bright, indirect sunlight like you would recieve from a northern or eastern exposure window.

Pro-Tip: African Violets can develop a long "neck" of the plant. If your flowers and foliage have extended out of the pot and started to flop over, we recommend removing some of the root base, repotting and burrying the "neck" so that only 1/2" is above the soil.
