Carnatic music is the south Indian classical music, has a rich history and tradition and is one of the gems of world music. Carnatic music is more thoroughly oriented to the voice. Even when instruments are used alone, they are played within a vocal range, and with embellishments that are characteristic of vocal music.
Nadaswaram, the Mangala vadyam (auspicious instrument) is a double reed wind instrument which is the world's loudest non-brass acoustic instrument. Mallari is a beautiful musical form that was the exclusive preserve of Nadaswaram music. Rendetion of Mallari is an important part of Nadaswaram repertoire. The carnatic music concert format has so much to offer in terms of space to innovate, include and exclude things. Mallari is a unique piece of music played on nagaswaram when the presiding deity of a temple is taken on procession. The deity, decorated with jewels and garlands is brought near the temple tower and nadaswaram artiste plays the music with the accompaniment of thavil.

Thiruvizha Jayashankar is an Indian classical musician and a well known Nadaswaram expert in South India. He is the son of nadaswara maestro Thiruvizha Raghava Panickar and grandson of Thiruvizha Sanku Panickar.
His musical journey with great Thavil maestro Valayapatti A. R. Subramaniam proved to be a landmark in live Nadaswaram concerts.
