The constant battle to avoid dangerous highs and lows often leaves people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) frustrated and exhausted. That's why JDRF is working on Beta Cell Encapsulation. This project means creating an endless supply of new beta cells and wrapping them in a protective barrier which will allow insulin to flow out into the blood stream, as well as keep the autoimmune attack out. Successfully implanted beta cells will be able to keep blood sugar under control and allow people with T1D to live as if they didn't have the disease for up to 24-months at a time.
