Of Mothers Among Other Things by A.K Ramanujan in Tamil / Bharath Ravindran / Bharath Academy A.K Ramanujan recalls the time when his mother was in silk sarees with her ear-rings studded with diamonds. She was running back from the rain of misfortune to the cradles of her babies. Her handles resembled a wet eagle's two wrinkled and twisted feet with one claw having severely damaged in the garden trap laid for mouse. In course of time, she has lost her strength and energy. In her old age her sarees hang upon her body loosley. When he visualizes his mother's four fingers bending to pick up a grain of rice fallen on the kitchen floor, he gets the sensation of his tongue become rough and hard as if licking the rugged trunk of a tree.
