In general, traditionally honey harvesting is done using crude and unsafe methods like driving
away the honey bees using fire, climbing the tree and physically by removing the honey comb.
But the modern method incorporates the usage of honey broods and practice apiculture for
large honey production. According to National Agricultural Statistics-2018, it is observed that
amount of pure honey production has gradually reduced over the past few years, mainly due to
improper handling of honey broods. When Apiculture is practiced in a rural environment, the
entire environment will get pollinated by the bees which in turn will improve the ecosystem of
the village / rural area. As the honey harvest alert system will improve the productivity of bee
farms, more farmers will get attracted to develop bee farms which in turn will improve the
livelihood of the rural population.
Modern method of honey harvesting is done using honey broods that are specially designed
wooden boxes normally it takes about a month for the comb to become ripe for harvesting. At
present ripens of honey comb is varied by physically removing the frames and inspecting. In
case the harvest is delayed, the honey comb will yet solidified due to the formation of sugar
crystals. Hence the challenge lies in correctly identifying the correct time for removing the
honey broods so that honey can be extracted to the maximum extent, the average honey
extraction per box is about 4kg per month out of which about 1kg is in the form of sugar
crystals. Hence the net extraction is only about 3kg with the prevailing price of Rs.1000 per
kg, the loss per box is Rs.1000/-. This loss can be avoided by the honey harvest alert system.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION:
To provide an “Effective and Efficient Honey Harvest Alert System for Bee farms”’ capable
of supporting the productivity of honey which is being practiced by an individual, a group and
village people with the following features:
 Increased Productivity of honey farms.
 Reduction in wastage of honey due to formation of sugar crystals.
 Increased pollination in surrounding area will improve the ecological condition.
 Reduced man power for maintaining bee farms.
 Higher production of honey will act as substitute for sugar and will improve the overall
well-being of consumers, due to the anti-oxidant content in the honey.
 Improved standard of living of small and rural farmer.
