BEVs and PHEVs (EVs) are shaping up to become the new normal – at least on new-car markets. But used-car buyers have remained sceptical and are clinging to the internal combustion engine. This and intensifying supply shortages have propelled prices for used petrol and diesel cars in Europe to new heights. EVs have not seen such a trajectory and continue to face faster lifecycle depreciation as technology advances quickly. In this session, we will assess what impact the masking factors of the pandemic and supply-demand disruptions have on current market dynamics on new- and used-passenger car markets. We describe where risks are building and what market correction we expect on Europe’s used-passenger car markets in 2022 and 2023.
