Hi everyone,

This is Dr. Sujoy Kumar Chatterji. I completed my MCh in Plastic Surgery from AIIMS New Delhi and have recently finished my IAAPS Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at Chennai Plastic Surgery under the guidance of Dr. Karthik Ram.

During our fellowship, we had the invaluable opportunity to perform, assist, and observe a wide range of cosmetic surgery procedures. Major procedures included gynecomastia, liposuction, body contouring, breast augmentation, breast reduction, blepharoplasties, and rhinoplasties. Working closely with Dr. Karthik Ram, we gained extensive hands-on experience and learned a great deal. Additionally, we trained in hair transplantation with Dr. Vasan, a senior consultant with vast experience in this field.

Our training also covered local cosmetic surgery procedures and non-surgical treatments such as Botox and fillers. We learned the importance of pre- and post-operative analysis, understanding patient expectations, and the holistic approach to cosmetic surgery patients. Dr. Karthik Ram often reminds us, “Complications need to be taken seriously but not personally,” teaching us how to manage them effectively.

We gained insights into patient care, understanding what they expect from their surgeon and the changes they seek. Academic learning was enriched through our journal club, where we discussed recent advances, surgical techniques, and the latest articles in plastic surgery with senior surgeons, occurring almost once a month.

The fellowship also included valuable lessons on marketing skills, preparing us to effectively market our skills as plastic surgeons when starting our own practice.

Overall, Chennai Plastic Surgery is an excellent place to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. Dr. Karthik Ram and his entire team are incredibly friendly and supportive. Whether you are a fresher like me or someone with a few years of experience, joining this fellowship will offer immense learning opportunities.
