Описание к видео Belfast Buoys Belfast Harbour Marina Abercorn Basin

I'm down in Titanic Quarter for the Belfast Maritime Festival. Belfast City Council have recently moved the iconic Belfast buoys from near St Anne's Cathedral to a home beside the sea, here at Abercorn Basin, Belfast Harbour marina.
The giant floats or navigation bouys sat in the centre of Cathedral Gardens, known locally as Buoy Park, beside St Anne's Cathedral and Ulster University for 36 years before they were removed to the marina area, back in January. It is probably more appropriate that they are sited there because of the obvious maritime connection.
Gifted to the city by the Commissioners of Irish Lights, the buoys are more than 80+ years old and are supposed to be painted in the colours of the pre 1979 Lateral System Buoyage.
Belfast Harbourmaster Captain Kevin Allen said.
"The round buoy, which should be indicative of a safe water mark, should be painted red and white. The other is a conical shaped buoy, which by modern conventions should be painted green.
Robert McCabe from the Commissioners of Irish Lights said the colour of a buoy was very important. .
"Buoys provide navigational information to mariners and they do so by their shape, their colour, their light characteristics and their top mark.' All those elements have to be correct to allow the mariner to make sound navigational decisions."

The original site back at Cathedral Gardens is being cleared to make way for the installation of a new memorial to those who lost their lives in the Belfast Blitz in April and May 1941. This new WW2 Memorialis a tribute the Belfast people who died during a series of German Luftwaffe bombing raids in April and May 1941.
While the shipyards and factories are believed to have been the targets of the bombers, instead thousands of houses were destroyed and more than 1,000 people were killed.
Cathedral Gardens is in one of the areas worst hit by the Nazi bombs, with nearby St Anne’s Cathedral almost destroyed in the blasts.
