It’s easy to overthink melodies—but once you understand how rhythm, note choice, and shape work together, it becomes way more natural.

Here’s the process I walk you through:
1. Start with rhythm – Catchy melodies usually start with a rhythm that locks into the groove before you even pick notes.
2. Pick notes based on the chords – Use chord tones as your foundation, then sprinkle in non-chord tones for movement.
3. Think about shape – Is your melody staying in the same range? Or is it rising and falling? The contour makes a big difference in how it feels.

By the end, you’ll see exactly how I go from a basic, flat idea to something that’s actually hooky and usable in a track.
