I stacked three layers, and then carved them in a tapered style with a large serrated knife. I like to do this while the cake layers are still cold (I freeze my cake layers after baking to help them retain moisture). After it looked tapered enough, I crumb coated this like usual, just making sure my scraper was angled upward rather than flush with the cake board. I frosted this in pink after letting the crumb coat set up in the fridge in the same shade as Alice's cake in the movie. I also allowed this time to set up in the fridge, and then I piped shells and spirals in the pattern of the cake from the movie. I did draw out the zigzags with a toothpick prior to piping this to keep it even.

My fondant toppers were created with flower cutters and sugar pearls (these are all in the Amazon storefront here: http://www.amazon.com/shop/erin.cakes... ). The candle was created by rolling two ropes of fondant out - one purple, and one white, pushing a skewer through these, and then adding a sculpted teardrop shape on top. I allowed this to dry hard, and then painted on some orange flame detail.
