To see a world is a compliment in musical form.This piece, written by composer Sven-David Sandström, is dedicated to Swedish conductor Erik Westberg (*1956).Both Sandström and Westberg studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.One studied composition, the other choral conducting. In this piece, Sandström has used one of the most famous texts by the illustrious English poet and artist William Blake (1757-1827). The text consists of the first verse lines of the longer work Auguries of Innocence, which Blake wrote in 1803 but was not published until 1863. These four opening lines seem to suggest that you can find enchanting beauty and complexity in the smallest things there are. A grain of sand, or the leaf of a field flower. If you take the time to carefully observe these seemingly insignificant things, you can discover in a small detail a particularly large world of wonder. Just as Westberg presumably knew how to conjure surprisingly great beauty from the small, unexpected places in the music he conducted.
