Running to Help Max find a cure for Alexander Disease

Please can I introduce you to Max, who was diagnosed with Alexander Disease. Alexander Disease (AxD) is a very rare, usually fatal, neurological disorder that can cause a range of motor and cognitive difficulties including seizures; difficulty swallowing, feeding, and vomiting; and severely impaired balance and coordination.

When he was 7 months old, Max had his first seizure, and after a lot of time in various hospitals, his Mum and Dad found out the diagnosis. The doctors told his parents that he might only live for 5 years and that there is not much they can do for him. But his parents are not giving up.

There is currently no cure for Alexander Disease, but for the first time there is real hope, thanks to new approaches to Gene Therapy and drugs that have proven effective in neurodegenerative diseases like ALS or MS.

Thankfully, there are World Class scientists committed to helping babies like Max, but they don't have enough funding to conduct the experiments necessary.

In running Paris Marathon I hope to raise awareness for Max and Alexander Disease and raise €10,000 in 7 days.
