In his first year at the helm, Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball head coach Jesse Nakanishi has guided the Sharks to the PacWest Conference tournament, a place the program has not been to in seven years.

At 18-10 overall and 13-7 in PacWest play, the Sharks are the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, which gets underway on Thursday in San Diego.

One of HPU’s standouts during its breakout 2023-2024 campaign is guard Dominique “Diggy” Winbush, who has played in all 28 games, starting 26. He’s currently averaging 11.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, along with 100 total assists, all while shooting 84.8% from the free throw line and 40.8% from 3-point range.
