Brandenburg's Minister of Economic Affairs expects Tesla's Giga Berlin production to start in 2021, expressing his hope that Elon Musk sticks to the planned timeline of the electric car factory.

"Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made it clear that he is very interested in sticking to the planned timeline. I still expect the first cars to roll off the assembly line this year," said minister Steinbach to Märkische Allgemeine.

EV news provider Alex Avoigt commented on this announcement in Twitter saying "Elon has stated that he expects final approval in Oct which should not be confused with the start of production or even first finished vehicles

"After approval arrives, Tesla will take 1-2 months for the first Model Ys to roll off the assembly line. Both statements are consistent."

plans to build around 500,000 cars a year in the factory near Schönefeld Airport. Tesla is also planning a battery factory there. So far, the environmental approval for the plant by the state of Brandenburg is still pending. Therefore, construction is carried out through early approval. The planned start in July had been postponed to the end of the year.

Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is a European manufacturing plant for Tesla, Inc. under construction in Grünheide, Germany. The campus is 35 kilometres (20 mi) southeast of central Berlin on the Berlin–Wrocław railway, which forms the north border of the site between Erkner station and Fangschleuse railway station; and the A10 motorway, which forms the western border.
