For 2015, Grand Seiko pulled out all of the stops to throw itself a 55th anniversary party. This titanium and ceramic SBGC013 is a chronograph GMT limited edition of 400 pieces. Its Spring Drive caliber 9R96 is a hot-rod automatic movement that's accurate to within 10 seconds per month, and its Grand Seiko "Deep Blue" dial is a show stopper that will steal the hearts of watch buyers.

Grand Seiko limited editions always are memorable. Japanese watches offer a different style than the Swiss, and much of Japanese watchmaking is dominated by the Seiko watch empire. A Grand Seiko signature color - "Deep Blue" - graces this commemorative dial. Gold accents, hand-finished dial indices and hands, a power reserve indicator, a date, chronograph displays, and a GMT hand complete this fusion of art and industry.

Grand Seiko finishes the case with its famous "Zaratsu" mirrored and optically flawless tin-plate polishing technique. Since this process is applied by virtue of a Grand Seiko artisan's skill, it is a refinement for which Swiss mass production (looking at you Omega, Rolex, and Breitling) has no answer at any comparable price point. A black ceramic bezel resists scratches and offers a tachymeter scale in white lacquer than can be used for reading the speed of a car or aircraft between two fixed points.

The bracelet of this Spring Drive Chronograph GMT is crafted from titanium to match the case. A full deployant clasp includes triggers for secure closure and convenient release. The yellow gold Grand Seiko logo on the clasp indicates the special edition status of the SBGC013.

Grand Seiko Spring Drive caliber 9R96 offers automatic winding, a three day (72 hour) power reserve, dual time (GMT) capability, and a chronograph with both vertical clutch and column wheel. While a standard Spring Drive caliber 9R86 is accurate to within +/- 15 seconds per month, this upgraded special edition 9S96 is precise to +/- 10 seconds per month. A yellow gold Grand Seiko lion medallion in the winding rotor of the caliber attests to this special edition precision.

The 50-jewel in house Grand Seiko movement is protected by a screw down crown and 100-meter water resistance.

The Grand Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph 55th Anniversary Limited Edition features a 43.5mm titanium case surrounding a blue dial on a titanium bracelet with folding buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, small-seconds, date, chronograph, tachymeter, and power reserve indicator. The watch also measures 16.4mm in thickness and 50.6mm from lug-to-lug.
