The United States, unfortunately, is in an epidemic of obesity, and we see it all the time. I mean, you see that individual walk into the office and you know what you're gonna see them about. It's either their hips or their knees if they're morbidly obese and they've been obese for a long time. They can't function, they can't return to work. It is difficult to offer them a knee replacement or a hip replacement, if they're that big they need to work on their weight. We suggest weight reduction, if they can't than maybe an abdominal surgery, the bypass or the sleeve, to enhance their weight reduction. Then come back and consider having that done.
However, some individuals are unable to do that, unable to loose the weight despite all that, or they don't wanna undergo the abdominal surgery. So we're in a quandary of what to offer them, because we know that their hip or knee replacement is not gonna last long. And if they are well aware that they may require a second operation within a short period of time, maybe five years, maybe 7 years, and some individuals will elect to do this, fully understanding that this is what is in their future, a second or a third operation. And it's not as good as the first one. Obviously you wanna do one operation, hopefully it lasts you a lifetime.
So that's gonna be a challenge. We've been seeing a lot of younger individuals getting their knee replaced because of, also, sports activity. Young people, they get injured, they either tear their meniscus or their anterior cruciate ligament and they had it reconstructed, and they developed traumatic arthritis and eventually they will come to have a knee replacement sooner than somebody who does not have an arthritic knee. So these are challenges, and I think we'll have to deal with them. With the X10 machine, again, is brought in and they get recover. If you do it, that's why we don't like to do it in young people, if they have no pain they'll go back to certain activities that will shorten the life of the implant, and you don't wanna do that.
