Sri Lanka, an island country in South Asia, was considered the most advanced economy in the region, with a per capita GDP of USD 3,815. However, the country has been suffering from economic hardships over the last few years. In a country with a 95 percent literacy rate, Inflation is 17.50 percent, and the currency of the country is traded for 307 Sri Lankan Rupee per USD. In the last two years, the country's Foreign Exchange Reserve decreased by 70 percent to USD 2.31 billion, which resulted in an insufficient supply of food, edible oil, gas, fuel, and other essentials. The situation is so dire that the country had to cancel the test in all educational institutions due to a lack of paper and ink. Due to a lack of fuel, the public transportation system collapsed, and the country couldn’t produce enough electricity, resulting in more than 13 hours of blackouts. Even major surgeries got canceled due to the lack of life-saving medicine. In the continuation of these things, on April 12, Sri Lanka's government announced that the country is unable to pay its foreign debt totaling USD 51 billion and declared temporary bankruptcy.
